.: No more spam :)

Anantha | 10/30/2004

At last I managed to nail the spammer. The wordpress support group helped me nail the problem with a little fix. The problem was that as soon as I posted a message, a spam would appear. But that used to be the only spam that came up. But it was really irritating to find a stupid comment on every log and was driving me nuts. Apparently this is what happened : The spammers had inserted a comment with a post ID that did not exist at the time they did it, but when my post matches the ID, the spam instantly showed up.

TG’s fix solved the problem for me and in case anyone else using WP runs into this problem, here is the fix.

Also I am considering renaming my files and I think it might help to an extent. One of my friends is already using it, and I am going to follow suit.

.: Left or right ??

Anantha |

I have been contemplating asking this for a long time now. And I think now that the drive to incorporate some changes that I have been thinking for the site has come back again, here is the poll.

The reason behind the right hand menu on my site has a certain “my logic” behind it. As a non-mac user, I always have felt that the mouse pointer usually remains in the right half of the screen and being a right hander, I am comfortable with the sub-navigation menu on my right than on my left, which results in better usability. But this is just my thought, and until I have the results of a usability test, this will not be proved beyond doubt. So for all those who frequent this site and even for people who have come in for the first time (and may never come again, although I hope not), I want you to *ping* me what you feel about the right hand menu. And please feel free to post any other suggestions/views you may have.

I am on a spam busting mission now, with some &*!@^! spamming my site with random quotes. And I don’t know of ways to vent my anger. Right now its my keyboard thats taking the brunt of it… :D

.: The tube

An amazing looking piece of architecture, though I don’t know if it is a structural or non-structural part of this building. But it looked quite amazing. And this is in San Diego, CA.

.: On the fast lane

Anantha | 10/27/2004

Yeah, this what you get with when you have the following settings || f 2.8 | ISO 100 | EV +2.0 | 1 sec. || and not to mention steady hands, and some free time past 10 PM :)

On the fast lane

I also have plans of adding a shoutbox on my site, and it will be on probation to watch out for spammers and also hope to work on the aesthetics, and try to add more color to this “rather” dull site. Lots of agendas, very little time…..and not to mention, I am the master “procrastinator”. But my target time for atleast adding the shoutbox and the aesthetics is by the end of thanksgiving hols (Nov. 20- 28)

.: All in One

Anantha | 10/24/2004

And on a cold, cloudy day where you are devoid of any sort of motivation and you goof around the whole day doing nothing and cursing the weather outside, bang comes the energy ( 2 HP per square meter ). Yeah, I am talking of the sun. The enthusiasm is back and when I look outside, I find this.

the cloudy sun-day

The photo-op was just perfect. The sun playing hide and seek, the dark rainy clouds covering the entire sky, the shadows, me and my camera on my balcony ( or gallery as people here call it !!! ). It is all there. It reminds me of the days when I used to make water-color paintings of “sceneries” where I used to have this theme almost everytime.

And in case you really like the picture and want it for yourself, drop in a word and I shall be only happy to send you the 1632 x 1224 image.

.: The sunset and the lights

Anantha | 10/18/2004

It was a great day yesterday playing in a six a side cricket tournament. I had a very good day with the bat, tonking 5 sixers and 6 fours in 3 matches. Though we did not make it to the finals ‘cos we lost 2 matches very narrowly it was great fun.

I had a bad day with the ball, bowled 2 overs in which I gave away 20 odd runs

Here is my memory of the day. The lights with the sunset in the background.

.: Straight from the canvas

Anantha |

This is probably the best sketch someone has made of yours truly. I must really thank Geetanjali for this wonderful sketch. And I think its a masterpiece, considering that she has never seen me yet.

.: Fermat’s Enigma

Anantha | 10/10/2004

In the words of the genius who ultimately solved the holy grail of mathematics (Fermat’s Last Theorem), “It looked so simple, and yet all the great mathematicians in history could’nt solve it. Here was a problem that I, a ten-year-old, could understand and I knew from the moment that I would never let it go. I had to solve it.”

And Andrew Wiles did it, 30 years after he first saw the problem, in 1993 at the Isaac Newton Institute in Cambridge. According to Pierre de Fermat there was no whole number solution to xn + yn =zn where n=3,4,5.. and so on. In other words the “Fermatean triple” never existed and to prove it never existed became the final frontier for mathematicians. The important steps in the proof to Fermat’s last theorem is more than 200 pages long, but mathematicians believe that a simpler solution may exist considering that Fermat had a small jotting on a notebook that read “I have a truly marvelous demonstration of this proposition which this margin is too narrow to contain”. Only time will tell………..

.: Simply Perfect

Anantha | 10/7/2004

Strictly for people who have steady hands and a lot of time, commonly known as graduate students

This was on my mind for a long time, to try and balance two circular objects on top of one another and I did it !!!! Yeah, it did take 45 mins of concentration and no movement (not even vibrations/sound/walking/heavy breathing etc. etc.). The supporting object is a tennis ball and the object on the top is a circular rubber globe that I picked up as a freebie. These are the kind of things that really make you happy, the centroid of the bottom object and the top object on the same line and hence, the perfect balance.

.: Blurred Vision

Anantha |

This morning when I woke up and looked out of the window, for just a second, I could not understand whether I had really blurred vision or whether it was real foggy outside and hence, decided to check out for myself. It was like this, unless of course, the camera had a blurred lens too :)
