Sometimes people take decisions impulsively, and some people always take impulsive decisions. The latter has always been the case with me. I did make such a decision again. Though for something as trivial as a haircut. Here is an excerpt of a chat with my dad that I had just a couple of days ago. And a haircut was never in the agenda.

And here I am, after having lost most of something I had cared for over the last 6 months or so. Without a remorse. And I am sure a lot of people will be happy seeing me like this.

 

This is how colorful musical notes in space would look like, even though they might not produce good music :D.

The log page finally appears close to how I had visualized it. Tweaked up pretty much everything I could, and I think it is going to stay this way till the time I get bored of the lack of colors or some other eye-candy related thing.

The thanksgiving breaks are here, and its tweak time

Lot of things are going to be changed, tweaked. Sometimes it may work, sometimes it may not. If you are here when I am experimenting, then I guess you will have to bear with me.

A brand new header is in place and soon a new menu will be in place of the rather-haphazardly-put-together menu that was here when you probably last visited this site. And the calendar needs a lot of rework. You would have noticed that this site has become a little wider. And it looks fine on my browser. If your browser does not render it correctly, I would highly appreciate your feedback on that.

Ok, let me get back to tweaking.

Are the aliens coming ? Is this their spacecraft ? Is it the exhaust ? For a moment you are thinking of the scene from Independence Day when the alien spacecraft enters the earth’s atmosphere. Chill….its just the passing clouds, one rather sultry evening at Blacksburg.

At last my wireless card is configured on Suse 9.1 and it works perfect. Now I have the freedom of using the internet while on Linux to fix problems and learn, which was not the case when I could not access internet from Suse. I can also access my windows partitions, and use my external USB hard drive and wireless mouse/keyboard combo. I am yet to plug in my digicam and other peripherals, but I am sure I should be able to find a way out.

The first steps were not without its share of problems. Mandrake 10 would freeze during install, Mandrake 10.1 would not detect my video card, but Suse had no such problems and it worked like a charm. I am right now using a free trial version of driverloader but I need to figure out a way to get ndiswrapper to work. Here is a screenshot as a psuedo-sense-of-achievement.

And I can’t thank Anand enough for helping me with a bunch of stuff. Pretty much eased me into Linux

I once had a long *not-so-sweet* discussion about Open source and such with a friend of mine, and he very subtly asked me what my OS was. I did not have a chance but to say Windows XP (yeah !!! its licensed). He then told me that I could not comment on or advocate open source since I was not using one. But frankly the only MS products that I use are MSN messenger and Windows XP. I technically can avoid MSN messenger by using GAIM but not the OS.

But woohoo !!, I did install Suse 9.1 on my machine today. I borrowed the DVD sent to my roommate from Novell ( yeah, free !) and he happens to be a Linux Geek. And so the child has begun to crawl. I say so since I am a Linux novice but I am sure I will get the baptism done in the right way. And what better way to learn something than play around with it. Sad part is that this post is coming from a MS powered laptop, since I am yet to figure out a way to make Linux support my wireless card. MS freaks must be laughing saying this, “Perils of linux”. But I will get to the end of it…..

Aah !! Winters’ coming. The weather was so good over the last week, and we even managed to play cricket, but I woke up this morning to a damp day and its been drizzling all through the day. So what do you do ? Attend classes from 8 am - 11 am, come back home, get into the warm comforts of your bed and cuddle up, alone :(. And then reality strikes that its 4 pm and you have your research deadline to meet tomorrow noon. And then you comfort yourself that there is more than 22 hours to it and watch an episode of “Friends” and then make yourself a nice warm “chai”, and take a warm shower for a long time and then when everyone would be compelled to think you would have started your work, I am here……typing this at 6 pm. And now I have 20 hours (Now 19 hours and 55 mins and ticking).Am I taking things too close , or do I don’t get the drive until the last minute. I think my mom would vouch that its the latter, the last minute thingy. Its fine as long as its done. And whether it is done over 3 hours everyday for a week or 21 hours a day :D.

Anyways, I really think I have to get back, but I might post a message at 4 AM if I am too bored or too tired or*whatever*.

And the day continues with some more color (it looks like orange on my laptop, but LCD’s are always misleading). So, I am waiting for comments some CRT guys. Also a brand new header has come in place of the pale newspaper like old header. Also the sidebar was tweaked up and down to reach the current state. Now that it has some color, I will give it some rest and wait till I get bored and work on the background and some other hacks. But like I promised, I have begun the work on aesthetics

And keeping my fingers crossed for the presidential elections……

Though I don’t have the big bucks yet to contribute to Firefox, this is just my way of repaying them. I ♥ firefox anyday, and this is just my way to say “thank you” to them. A little link taking you to where you can get it.
