Not many in the world [and by that I mean outside the United States of America] know what the Superbowl is. Even though American Football is played in other countries outside the USA, only local teams compete in the finale. It is somehow not right to call superbowl winners as the “World Champions”. Come on, for crying out aloud.

The above reminds me of this funny incident that happened when I was studying in the X std. in Chennai. Back then, there were 3 options for second language [Tamil, Hindi and French]. Our class had mostly Hindi and French students and only ONE Tamil student [my buddies would remember Abdul]. Every subject had a class topper back then [it did not seem stupid back then], and all of us from our class did fight for Abdul to get a class topper badge even though he was the only one in the class taking Tamil and he never had competition :).

Americans are crazy!!!! The do everything the wrong way!!!! And pity the world still wants to follow them.
There was a big debate on in Australia (esp melbourne) about Footy(Aussie rules Rugby) being the worlds best sport. And matter of fact of eth 16 teams that compete for the premiership, 9 teams are from Melbourne and 1 from about an hours drive frmo melbourne. The other 6 are interstate.
Duh!!!!!
Looks like the Aussies are being an ally to uncle Sam here. I thought it was Aussie rules football and not rugby. Maybe I am wrong. On any given day, I would pick rugby as being the toughest followed by aussie rules football and lastly american football ‘cos of all the protective gear that they use. Nothing gets as tough as rugby though.
well Footy is a cousin of Football and Rugby. I think its closer to rugby and hence the suggestion that it is Aussie rules rugby.
I was actually right. It is not called rugby. Check this.
I wrote such a big detailed comment and when I clicked on submit comment.it said I hadnt filled the mail id,so I go back to this page and poof..my comments is not there…sob sob…
Anyways I will try to repeat what I said, this is just extra info
There are actually two versions of rugby. Its called the rugby league and the rugby union. Its more like rugby union being the test match cousin of cricket and rugby league being the ODI cousin since its faster.
The difference lies in possession of ball after tackle. While rugby union the ball is open to possession after every tackle,in rugby league you have the concept of 5 tackles much similar to the 4 downs in american football before u can obtain possession.
Rugby league is played with great fervor majorly in australia and I used to watch them a long time back with lots and lots of enthu, these days I dont follow them,But the aussie rugby league rocks
Rugby union is what the world cup rugby and everything is all about and something I still follow like the 5 nations, bledisloe and the world cups
footy is a “kaatu mirandi” game and though I think its very challenging I dont think its pleasing to the eye.
American football the less said the better,I have followed the game for ages and I have tried to like it every time I see it,but the numerous stoppages after every down, bores me out and with all those paddings it somehow doesnt encourage my interest.
so if you want to watch some rugby action, you should follow either rugby league or the union, really the best of the lot.Maybe pramod can say something abt the league,I remember even they call it something like the superbowl etc.
