.: What words can never describe…

Anantha | 9/5/2005

It’s been more than a week since Katrina hit South Florida and I can’t help thinking how lucky we all were after seeing the widespread destruction in New Orleans and Mississippi. Nature has its own ways of showing its might and man is almost never a match to its fury. Every once in a while it raises its head to deliver a lethal blow which we all take a long time to recover from. From the tsunamis and the earthquakes to the hurricanes, nature’s law of balancing things is quite simply beyond description. Nature has always shown its might ever since one can remember, but the only worry is its alarming rate of recurrence of late. We can only pray and hope that the people in the Gulf Coast are able to rebuild their lives but the indelible scar of the brutal attack will remain till eternity.

As I had mentioned in my previous post, I did take a few pictures of Katrina’s destruction and I am posting them here as words can never describe things like a picture does.

From huge uplifts in the pavements……….

Cracked pavements

to ripped apart road signs……..

Wrong way ?

to cracked walls……..

Cracked walls

to downed trees blocking roads……..

Roadblock

to weak trees being uprooted……

Uprooted

to trees sheared in half………

Sheared in half

to waterlogged streets and downed power lines.

Waterlogged

But life cannot stop and it moves on bringing another beautiful day to cheer people up.

And another beautiful day

.: Thorny

Anantha | 4/1/2005

It’s been a while since I have posted a picture. I have been consciously trying to post more text than images. And when I am out of words (I am trying to reserve the rest for my thesis), I post a picture. This is one from home-home and in the hazy background is my dad.

Update: I just notice there is stiff competition for Laloo Prasad Yadav…………Ganguly is giving him a run for his money with his appalling performances. I am not being too anti-dada here, and I really want him to perform and retain his place. And I almost always forget that he has scored 9,964 runs in ODI’s. Hope he becomes the second Indian to get there.

.: Shattered

Anantha | 3/10/2005

A long time has passed since I posted something here. I have been keeping very busy, and this post is just a way to show I do care about trying to put something up here. And this is a picture of shattered glass pane at the entrance of our apartment. And they have not fixed it yet, since they are yet to find out who did it :)

.: Changing emotions

Anantha | 2/13/2005

Curious, sad, happy and intense. These are pretty tough emotions to be reflected on someone’s face. And seasoned actors find it very difficult to portray various emotions. But here I am talking about the four emotions on someone’s face in a time span of just forty six seconds (yes, 46 seconds). And he is no seasoned actor, he is just 1 month shy of his first birthday. I think the title of this post says everything, and I don’t have to blab here.

Try the above keys on a Windows XP machine and you will see what happens. Ah ! You guessed it right - HIBERNATE. That’s exactly what I was doing since my last post. I had a great trip back home-home, did most of the things that I had wanted/planned to do and am slowly settling down here in Blacksburg. I was down with a severe throat infection as were few of my other friends here at Tech.

The current semester is going to be pretty hectic even though I don’t have any classes. I need to wrap up my research work and graduate by May, and need to start job-hunt in right earnest. And I need to get back to posting stuff since that is going to the only way I can let my steam out. I did take quite a lot of pictures in India and will post them to a gallery. Yes, you can see the procrastinator in me coming to the fore. Everything here is “will do sometime later”, “need to start” etc. Things have to change or else I am going to be left standing where I am with the world leaving me behind, laughing.

OT : Looks like Narain Karthikeyan is going to make it to the pinnacle of motorsport.

.: Leafy Globe

Anantha | 12/3/2004

This is probably how the earth would look like from a *land far-far-away* if it was lighted from within and the earth’s crust was transparent. So much for my imagination !! Well, this is nothing but a floor lighting covered with dried leaves at the World War II Memorial in Washington DC.

.: Transition

Anantha | 11/30/2004

Sometimes people take decisions impulsively, and some people always take impulsive decisions. The latter has always been the case with me. I did make such a decision again. Though for something as trivial as a haircut. Here is an excerpt of a chat with my dad that I had just a couple of days ago. And a haircut was never in the agenda.

krishna_murthy31 (8:40:07 PM): shall we stop for the day?go and cut ur hair before you come to india.prandha!
anant_27 (8:40:12 PM): :D
anant_27 (8:40:20 PM): yeah we will stop for the day, will cut my hair in INDIA
krishna_murthy31 (8:40:27 PM): no no
krishna_murthy31 (8:40:35 PM): absolutely NO
anant_27 (8:41:03 PM): i will cut in india
anant_27 (8:41:11 PM): these ppl butcher my hair
krishna_murthy31 (8:41:18 PM): no da.u look clumsy
krishna_murthy31 (8:41:45 PM): u tell them how much hair to be removed
anant_27 (8:42:00 PM): they dont know to use the scissors properly
krishna_murthy31 (8:42:01 PM): they know their job
anant_27 (8:42:12 PM): they dont cut properly , i will cut in india, matter closed

And here I am, after having lost most of something I had cared for over the last 6 months or so. Without a remorse. And I am sure a lot of people will be happy seeing me like this.
