I dont believe in this statement, neither would anyone.  Hindu culture is the only culture in the world which believes life after death and the mythology of "rebirth".  Law of  Karma states that What wer are today, are due to  our acts in our past life.  Human being continues to change its form till the day he/she attains MOKSHA" .  And, karma not only includes what you do, according to our religion it also includes what you think.  So rewards are based on not only what you eventually do but, also by what you think.

And, last thing.  I agree to you when you say "We never do anything without thinking the rewards"  But that's how our Modern Law of Karma goes ;)
